502'sDay was a celebration of horses, fashion and Muhammad Ali
502'sDay kicked off Derby week at Churchill Downs with a punch, literally.
The day dedicated to Louisvillians celebrated one of the greatest Louisvillians of all time 맥스카지노 Muhammad Ali.
From boxing demonstrations on the terrace to an interactive art installation, track-goers got to immerse themselves in the celebration of Ali.
"I'm just excited to be here on Muhammad Ali day, 502'sDay," said Camisha Jeter, who came to Churchill Downs Tuesday to celebrate Ali. "Because he's a staple of our city, and of Kentucky."
Braylyn Stewart was the artist behind the interactive art installation dedicated to Ali. Stewart spray painted "Ali" in bubble letters, then invited guests to slip on a pair of boxing gloves, dip the fist of them in paint, and punch their mark inside the letters.
"I hope everybody comes up and, you know, lets some aggression out. You know, let out the champ, let the champ ring free," said Stewart.
The art piece will now be displayed inside the Muhammad Ali Center.
Others came to Churchill Downs for the regular Derby traditions, like the fashion and horses.
"I like the people watching," said Cecilia Oak, of Carollton. "I've already seen so many pretty hats and dresses and just love watching the fashion."
While others, like Louisville-native Anthony Thomas, were excited to host friends from out of town.
"This is one of the best days of my life. My buddies are all here from Birmingham," said Thomas. "The pageantry, the hats, the suits, just the overall ambiance is fantastic."
Myron Ramsey is one of Thomas' friends. He was stunned when he walked into Churchill Downs for the first time on Tuesday.
"I was just saying, 'Wow.' It's just like you see on TV, you know, the hats and all, you know? It's wonderful," said Ramsey.
