Legendary Louisville basketball coach Denny Crum dies at 86
Legendary Louisville basketball coach Denny Crum has died.
He was 86.
Kenny Klein, longtime UofL sports information director and close friend of the coach, confirmed Crum died at his home Tuesday morning, the same day 29 years ago he was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
Crum coached the UofL men's basketball team from 1971 to 2001. He'll forever be remembered as the man who brought Louisville basketball to prominence.
He brought the team, and the city, their first-ever national championship in 1980.

In addition to the championships, he had six Final 4s and 675 wins in his 30-year run.
That record put Crum in the sports Hall of Fame, earned him Coach of the Year three times and endeared him to Cards fans forever.
Long after his coaching days were over, Crum, who was born in San Fernando, California, made Louisville his permanent home.
The court at the KFC Yum! Center was named after him, cementing his legacy in his adopted home.
And just a couple of months ago, across from that venue, Crum got a new "Hometown Heroes" banner -- a sure sign of a Louisville legacy.
Since 2001, the Denny Crum Scholarship Foundation and the Denny Crum Scholarship Fund at UofL have awarded over a million dollars benefiting over 425 students
