Nearly two years after former University of Louisville basketball coach Denny Crum died, he finally has a headstone.Crum died at the age of 86 on May 9, 2023.There was a setback in getting Crum's headstone to Cave Hill Cemetery, where he was laid to rest. The boat carrying it was attacked by pirates more than a year ago and the headstone was lost in the Red Sea.After this, a new headstone was made and installed at Cave Hill. There was also a monument placed at Crum's gravesite for fans to pay respects.The monument has a message on it that reads: "My love for my family, the fans, and this community has kept me in Louisville and made it my home."Crum's wife, Susan Sweeney, said the message is a special one from her late husband."We debated on what we might want to put on it, but I think that captures his heart. I mean, we always said he came here and he never wanted to leave again because he loved the fans," Sweeney said. "He made Louisville his community and loved the city. I think people felt a little ownership of Denny anyway, over the years. And I feel like they might think this is kind of theirs. Also, it's the place for them to come in and say, 'Hey, Denny, miss you.'"Crum is buried near Muhammad Ali's gravesite.
