Louisville officials, LMPD give update on safety plan for Derby week
Louisville Metro officials and Louisville Metro Police gave an update Tuesday on safety during Derby week.
Metro Emergency Services Deputy Director Kelly Jones gave some basic tips to make everyone's Derby experience as pleasant as possible.
His tips included:
- Take a photo of your group so you make sure to get everyone back together by the end of the day.
- Make sure to use sunscreen and drink water throughout the day.
- Bring portable phone chargers and make sure your phone has a full charge.
He also said to report any signs of human trafficking to any officials that you see.
Jones said ambulances, bike teams, and ATVs would be on hand from Thurby through the morning after Derby to assist people with any emergencies.
Bobby Cooper with Louisville Fire said that they will have plenty of crew on hand with the goal of responding, supporting, and monitoring.
