Residents of Frankfort and Franklin County are working tirelessly to recover from historic flooding that has devastated the area.
Piles of debris and cleanup crews are a common sight as the community begins to rebuild. To assist in the recovery efforts, FEMA has set up a multi-agency resource center in the area.
Katie Carney, a South Frankfort resident, shared the impact the flooding has had on her home.
"It's still just a shock맥스카지노I can still see the flood water lines," she said.
Her home, like many others, suffered extensive damage, with walls, furniture, and appliances destroyed, and mud still filling her basement. Despite the devastation, Carney has found temporary relief.
"We found an Airbnb that was fully furnished and able to give us a long-term rental agreement," she said.
In the nearby Bellepoint neighborhood, Phil Majcher is facing similar challenges.
"We're pulling out drywall, and we're pulling out insulation so that studs and stuff can dry out," he said. Both Carney and Majcher have flood insurance, but FEMA맥스카지노s Disaster Recovery Center is available to provide additional support if needed.
FEMA spokesperson Nicole Wilson emphasized the agency's commitment to helping those affected: "Let us know what their story is, and then we will talk to you to see how we might be able to help."
Wilson said FEMA's assistance can provide for temporary housing, diapers and baby formula.
"We may be able to assist with some of the costs that they're incurring right now. A lot of times, people don't know that," she said.
Ray Kinney, Franklin County's Emergency Management Director, noted that the priority is getting people back into their homes.
"Sheltering is still a concern for us. The rebuilding process can be long," he said.
Volunteers have also played a crucial role in the recovery efforts. Majcher expressed his gratitude for their support.
"They'll literally put their hands on me and say, 'You need to sit down and let us work for a while,'" he said.
For Carney, speaking with FEMA has provided a sense of relief amidst the chaos.
"It does give me a little bit calmer moments," she said.
