Fest-a-Ville requiring chaperones after more than 8 'disturbances' involving minors
The Kentucky Derby Festival has implemented a new policy for minors at Fest-a-Ville.
Fest-a-Ville and Chow Wagon take place every day through Friday this week down at Waterfront Park, just before the Derby.
Starting Monday, anyone under 18 years old who wants to attend must be with a chaperone 21 years or older.
They said the policy is a response to "multiple disturbances" caused by juveniles Sunday.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said between 6 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., eight to 10 incidents involving juveniles erupted.
"These juveniles ran through the venue, causing problems, disorderly, engaging with other patrons, jumping fences to avoid the admission fee," JCSO said.
In all, four juveniles were detained and released back to their parents. One was charged for assault on a police officer. The officer was not injured.
KDF said IDs will be verified at the entrance gate.
More details:
- Each adult can only chaperone six minors at a time.
- Groups larger than six individuals under the age of 18 will require an additional chaperone for every six minors.
- Chaperones are required to remain at Fest-a-Ville with the minors the entire time.
- Chaperones must bring a valid picture ID (driver's license, non-driver ID card, passport, visa or military ID.)
비바카지노 Viva asked LMPD about the weekend disturbances. They said the only "noteworthy" call they responded to was for a juvenile carrying a weapon.
They said they found the juvenile unarmed and the juvenile was not arrested.
The new minor policy will be in place for the remainder of the festival.
