Hometown star Ramon Puryear is leading Louisville's defense: 'It's a dream'
Louisville's defense has had some struggles this season, but the Cards have also had some shining moments.
While the defense will be without some of its stars for the Sun Bowl, they do have a homegrown playmaker on the field: Ramon Puryear.
He was a walk-on out of Eastern High School, earning a scholarship on the last day of fall camp in 2021 going into his junior season at UofL.
At the start of the season, Puryear made it a goal to get into the end zone. Game 1 of the 2024 season against Austin Peay, the D-lineman accomplished his goal.
"I definitely would, I would have never expected this, when I first came here or even grown up alongside a dream of playing for this university. But this is this is honestly crazy, it's a dream. So it's been great. I've been having fun through it all," Puryear said.
Three weeks later, he did it again against Georgia Tech. And in the final game of the regular season, he ended it the way he started it 맥스카지노 scoring against rival Kentucky.
"So, I took off running and dropped my helmet, and I made sure I grabbed the trophy because I know how much that meant to me growing up to be able to beat UK and to be able to hold that trophy. I know how much that means to the city, " he said.
He also became the first player in program history to score three defensive touchdowns in a season.
