District officials say parents can expect delays on some routes
Several JCPS bus drivers have called off work for Friday in what is believed to be a planned 맥스카지노sickout맥스카지노 in protest of current bus conditions.
The callouts are expected to cause more route delays, but as of 9 a.m., no cancellations.
JCPS spokesperson Carolyn Callahan said they are seeing more callouts than normal.
This caused parents to scramble this morning and afternoon to find transportation for their children.
On any given Friday, we맥스카지노re told it is typical to have 55-70 drivers out of work. The district said so far, 87 have called out.
JCPS has 575 drivers in total.
"I was shocked that after 10:00 I got a phone call that my kids were still stuck at daycare and hadn't been called by the compound for their bus and it was 30 minutes after their school had already started," Erickah Ford told 비바카지노 Viva.
More than 65,000 students take the bus each day and many routes were impacted by the sickout.
Teamsters Local 783 President John Stovall says the bus drivers did this on their own to get a stern message across to district officials.
"It's gone into school discipline and they feel the lack of support from the district," Stovall said.
Part of it has to do with the discipline referral process, but Callahan says that is changing.
Before it was a handwritten form, which could get lost in translation, and now it will be online.
"Bus drivers will go online, and they will put in their referral and that referral will be sent directly to school administrators and also to the compound coordinators, so they know as well," said Callahan.
While it's not in place yet, Stovall believes that will make a difference.
"I think it's got their attention and hopefully cooler heads prevail and we can sit down," Stovall told 비바카지노 Viva.
He also says parents play a part in this as well.
"When they're on the bus, they gotta control themself and behave themselves and for the parents to act the same way; don't come on the bus threatening bus drivers, don't threaten other students on that bus 맥스카지노 if you have a problem then call the district," said Stovall.
For Ford, whose kids rely on the bus to get to and from school, she hopes the message has been heard loud and clear.
"I think that's where it falls back on JCPS for not taking better care of them when they are carrying around Louisville's most precious people," said Ford.
비바카지노 Viva has been told there are rumors that another sickout is possible on Monday, but it has not been confirmed. Parents have been encouraged to have a backup plan in place in case that happens.
JCPS is still working to improve transportation after a disastrous start to the school year.

On the first day this year, the last bus riders did not get home until 9:58 p.m. that night, prompting the district to cancel classes for about a week to fine-tune the plan.
Rumors of the sickout started circulating Thursday night and suggested Monday could be involved as well. The district said then that it had no plans to cancel school either day should the drivers call out. Instead, they plan to cancel bus routes for drivers who don't come to work.
In a statement that night, officials said, "We hope the rumor is just that, a rumor, as we hate that it would have a negative impact on our students and families."
Since the initial fiasco, JCPS has implemented several changes, such as rolling out an app that lets parents track where their children's bus is. They also reduced the length of some routes with many stops.
JCPS also began providing additional pay to bus drivers who have routes that are deemed challenging.
These were all short-term solutions, and while JCPS hinted at making larger ones over fall break this year, they opted not to.
But JCPS Superintendent Marty Pollio did present options to help out the transportation system for the 2024-25 school year. Read about those changes here.
