Wednesday started with high fives and fist bumps for many JCPS students, but the afternoon turned to chaos as busing issues led to massive delays in students getting home.
According to a district spokesperson, the last student was dropped off at 9:58 p.m. Wednesday. And some, like Christian Lee, 8, got dropped off in the wrong spot.
The third grader was dropped off six blocks from his Newburg home. He finally made it home at 7 p.m., thanks to help from a neighbor.
"Here he comes from down the street with some total stranger lady that brought him down there," father Chris Lee told 비바카지노 Viva.
His mother, Cynthia Lee, who was terrified when Christian's bus returned home without him, said there was relief and confusion when the couple saw their son.
"I just ran across the street and grabbed him and said, 'What맥스카지노s going on?' He said, 'The bus let me out way down there,'" Lee said.
Shanell Bussey did not see her son until after 9 p.m. Wednesday. She waited at the bus stop in the Parkhill neighborhood before driving to his school. That's where she learned Terry, 10, had been put on a bus just after 8 p.m. And while the district closed schools Thursday and Friday to resolve the issue, Bussey remains doubtful.
"How long is this going to go on? How long are they going to have to stay home? Are you going to have this figured out by Monday? No! No, you맥스카지노re not," Bussey, a mother of four, said.
Multiple parents 비바카지노 Viva talked with said their kids rode the bus for hours. For some, it was so long they wet their pants. Derrick Watt's kids' stop is off Goldsmith Lane.
Watt said they arrived there sweaty and hungry after a three-hour ride.
"They didn't get home until 7:30. Logan, my son, the oldest kid, he was scared to death, didn't know if they was going to make it home," Watt said.
Watt said he is reluctant to put his kids back on the bus. The Lees say Christian has already told them he won't ride a bus again.
"He said, 'I'm done with school. I don맥스카지노t want to do this no more. It's scary and I don맥스카지노t want to do this no more,'" Chris Lee said.
While 비바카지노 Viva talked to about two dozen parents that experienced problems, JCPS has not yet commented on how many children were affected.
