Jeffersonville wins 1st state title since 1993 in overtime thriller
Jeffersonville High School clinched its first state title since 1993 with a 67-66 overtime victory against defending champions Fishers in Class 4A basketball.
The Jeffersonville Red Devils met the Fishers Tigers in the Indiana Pacers' venue, Gainbridge Fieldhouse, Saturday night.
In the second quarter, Jason Gardner went off the glass for two points, bringing his total to five and making the score 20-14 in favor of Fishers.
Later, Shawn Boyd was wide open on the wing and hit back-to-back triples, pushing Jeffersonville ahead to 27-24.
Before the break, Tre Singleton scored, putting the Red Devils up 30-24 at halftime.
In the fourth quarter, Michael Cooper drove by to tie the game at 60, contributing 13 points to the Red Devils' effort.
In overtime, Singleton made a crucial pass to a diving Elijah Cheeks.
Jeffersonville held on in overtime to secure the second championship in the school's history.
