The annual "Keepers of the Dream" celebration honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. returned to the Kentucky Center's Whitney Hall Sunday night. The event, a collaboration between Kentucky Performing Arts Reach and the River City Drum Corp, featured regional performers and speakers. Mayor Craig Greenberg presented the Freedom Awards to Joanne Jennings and Jefferson County Public Schools Chairman Rev. Dr. Corrie Shull for their dedication to Dr. King's mission in Louisville. "As we walk into such an uncertain future, it becomes imperative upon us to embrace the challenge of Dr. Martin Luther King to continue to build the beloved community, recognizing that we are all citizens of the world, that when we work for the betterment, for the flourishing, for the thriving of the least of these, we will all benefit," said Shull.This year's theme, "Women of the Movement," highlighted women's contributions to the civil rights movement.
