As the countdown to the 150th Kentucky Derby continues, there's a change coming to the picking field.Churchill Downs will now draw the post positions for the Run for the Roses a week before the first Saturday in May.The Kentucky Derby and Oaks pill pull will be on Saturday, April 27.Related stories:It was previously held on the Monday of Derby week."There's always excitement around the Kentucky Derby, so anytime you can do the pill pull the earlier the better because that way you're getting the betting information into everyone's hands even earlier," said Churchill Downs spokesperson Darren Rogers. "So we know exactly who every horse and every race will be by Saturday night, one week in advance of the Derby. So that's a real added benefit."Churchill Downs says the move will give horseplayers more time to handicap the races while requiring horses to be on the track's grounds two days earlier for monitoring and observation.
