Runners brave the rain for the Kentucky Derby Festival 5K
Friday night's rain showers didn't stop local runners from lacing up their shoes and hitting the pavement.
The Kentucky Derby Festival 5K kicked off an exciting weekend full of racing.
Despite the start time being pushed back 30 minutes because of the rain, 1,000 runners braved the weather at Waterfront Park, and so did their loved ones who came to cheer them on.
David and Jeff Omer came out to cheer on one of their family members.
"Sometimes, having funny signs is makes the pain a little bit less," they said. "Especially when you're close to the finish and you see your family or friends supporting you, and it just gives you that extra push to make it to the end. So hopefully we did that for our family."
Each runner who participated in the 5K received a medal after crossing the finish line.
Organizers told 비바카지노 Viva that 350 out of the 1,000 who ran Friday night are also registered to run the mini or full marathon on Saturday.
