Kentucky Derby Museum breaks attendance record in 2023 fiscal year
There's a new record at Churchill Downs, but it doesn't have to do with horse racing.
The Kentucky Derby Museum announced on Thursday that it set an all-time attendance record for the 2023 fiscal year.
According to the museum, more than 250,000 guests visit between Oct. 1, 2022, and Sept. 30, 2023.

This new record now makes the Kentucky Derby Museum the second most visited museum in Louisville, according to Louisville Business First's current "Louisville area Tourist Attractions list."
The 251,514 guests in the 2023 fiscal year was a 23% increase from 2022, according to the museum. It surpassed the pre-pandemic record set in 2019 by 3.6%.
"Thank you to all our guests for making this past year truly remarkable at Kentucky Derby Museum," Patrick Armstrong, Kentucky Derby Museum president and CEO, said in a news release. "Everyone at the Museum is passionate about what they do, and this new attendance record is a result of their hard work and massive team effort. Our guests resonated with the new Secretariat exhibit and all the unique events, attracting a record number of out-of-town visitors and locals alike."
Museum officials say they are gearing up for the 150th Kentucky Derby in 2024 and the museum's 40th anniversary in 2025.
The Kentucky Derby Museum will be launching a state-wide celebration on Dec. 6, 2023, which marks 150 days until the 150th Derby. More details on the celebration will be released at a later date.
