Derby Week weather planner: Warmth, scattered storms leading up to race day
A dry and warm start to Derby Week before scattered storms move in, but things look better for the biggest race days.
Monday looks to be a dry and warm start to Derby Week with highs in the mid 80s under partly cloudy skies.
On Tuesday, a cold front will push into the area, firing off scattered showers and storms throughout the day, which could impact 502s Day.
There is even the chance a few storms could be on the strong to severe side, with damaging winds gusts and large hail as the main threats.
This front will then stall out over the Commonwealth on Wednesday, producing more scattered showers and storms throughout the day, which could interrupt Winsday at Churchill Downs and the Great Steamboat race.
On Thursday, another low pressure system looks to sweep through the Ohio Valley sparking off even more scattered showers and storms.
Again, there is the chance a couple of these storms could be on the strong to severe side, meaning it could be a wet and stormy day for those heading to Thurby.
While a spotty light shower can't be ruled out for Oaks Day, the weather improves significantly for Derby Day. Expect a good deal of sunshine, with highs in the upper 60s Saturday.
