A federal lawsuit filed against the Adair County Youth Detention Center is seeking class action status.The lawsuit was filed on behalf of two females who were housed at the center in 2022.It claims that staff at the facility violated the civil rights of young people who are currently housed there or have been through the facility.Accusations in the lawsuit say that children were held in isolation for weeks, were deprived of educational instruction, along with being denied basic hygiene and showers.In 2022, Gov. Andy Beshear implemented safety changes at the center, including adding state troopers, following years of controversy.It is seeking actual and punitive damages.
