Louisville community steps up to help others in the snow
In the name of community spirit, residents of south Louisville have come together to assist those stranded by the recent snowstorm.
For Megan, the ordeal began when her Tahoe got stuck in her front yard for three days. Despite various attempts맥스카지노including placing wood under the tires and using wire racks맥스카지노the vehicle remained stuck. Desperate for help, Megan turned to social media.
"I posted on Facebook, and he was like, reach out, I can help you. So I did, and he was here and within the hour," Megan said.
Enter Jonathan Dunn and his team of 30 Jeep drivers. The drivers are a part of two clubs, the Rough Cut Jeep Club and the Stir Crazy Jeep Club. Since Sunday, they have been tirelessly responding to calls for assistance.
"My wife's been running dispatch, Lauren's been running a dispatch with my wife. They've been working off a pad and piece of paper. Just taking calls and getting dispatch to our drivers and making things happen. It takes a village to make this happen," Dunn said.
Nonprofit organizations like Shirley's Way and the South End Street Angels have played a crucial role in connecting those in need with Dunn's group. Together, they have answered over 150 calls since the storm hit.
"We맥스카지노ve been going nonstop. It's been truly a blessing to help people and get them to work, get people to their doctor's appointments. It's amazing," Dunn said.
Megan expressed her gratitude, saying, "I think it's wonderful because people don't do enough for everybody, and I think that's the problem."
Brian Bailey, another local hero, has been lending a hand맥스카지노quite literally. Armed with a 50-pound bag of salt and two shovels, Bailey spent the first two days clearing driveways by hand.
"Best, worst idea I ever had in my life," he said.
After tackling over 20 driveways, some over 100 feet long, he enlisted the help of a wheel loader.
Bailey has been working solely for tips, accepting whatever people can offer.
"Everybody's texting me saying, how much do you charge? I said, whatever you got. I have not yet said a price. I've had $20 bills handed to me, I맥스카지노ve had $100 bills handed to me. It's whatever. Let me get you out," he said.
Despite the challenges, Bailey remains optimistic.
"There are still good people in the world," he said.
Both Bailey and Dunn said they plan to continue offering services until there is no more need.
