Louisville Metro Council election: Republicans sweep every contested seat
Seven contested Louisville Metro Council races were on the ballot Tuesday.
Five incumbents were fighting to hold on to their seats, but some seats were flipped.
In District 12, which stretches from Iroquois Park to Riverview Park, Republican Jonathan Joseph knocked off incumbent Democrat Rick Blackwell in a very close race, winning by just 92 votes.
Democrat Cindi Fowler has been representing District 14 since 2012, and was unseated by Republican Crystal Bast, a political newcomer.
In District 16, Republican incumbent Scott Reed defended his seat against Democratic challenger Matt Golden, with 54-percent of the vote.
Republican Marilyn Parker also defended her seat in District 18, which stretches from Saint Regis Park to Douglas Hills and Anchorage. Democrat Mera Kathryn Corlett challenged her, but came up short.
Stuart Benson has represented District 20 since the Metro Council was formed and easily won re-election with 61-percent of the vote. Democratic challenger Marita Willis received 39-percent of the vote.
In District 22, Republican Kevin Bratcher, a former state lawmaker, won the seat, beating Democrat Rasean Crawley. The seat was previously held by longtime Republican incumbent Robin Engel, who retired.
And lastly, in District 24, Republican Ginny Mulvey-Woolridge, an IT manager and community volunteer, was the narrow winner. She defeated Democrat Tyra Thomas-Walker. Mulvey-Woolridge says the city needs better pay and benefits to recruit and retain police officers and other city employees.
