92-year-old Louisville woman honored for 41 years of service
Muriel Trowbridge was honored by Gov. Andy Beshear on Wednesday for her more than 41 years of service at the Ronald McDonald House in Louisville.
The 92-year-old said she started volunteering there in 1984, when it first opened its Louisville location.
"At first we were doing it every other week," said Trowbridge. "But, there was a lot to learn and do really in the house. So I said, 'Can I come every week on Thursday?' And they said, 'Sure.'"
Since then, Trowbridge has done a plethora of jobs at the house. Most recently, she's been dubbed the "Laundry Connoisseur," thanks to her ability to properly fold a fitted sheet. She ensures that all 56 bedrooms have clean bed sets for each guest.
"I mean, it has to be done, and I don't mind doing it," said Trowbridge.
She was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by Beshear on Wednesday.
Trowbridge said she plans to continue serving until she can't anymore.
"I have always felt that when you make a commitment, you should stick to it," said Trowbridge. "The house is still here, so I'm still here!"
