Hometown star Monique Reid named Bellarmine women's basketball head coach
Bellarmine women's basketball has a new leader: local star Monique Reid was promoted as the Knights head coach after spending two seasons as an assistant.
From Fern Creek High School to the University of Louisville, plus a 10-year professional career overseas, Reid was ready to return home and start a new chapter after retiring from professional basketball in June 2023.
"I'm just a Louisville kid, through and through 맥스카지노 born, raised and played. I just think it made the most sense for me to come back, especially playing for so long," said Reid. "It's also nice being with my family and being around my friends that I missed for so long because it's kind of hard when you're playing 10 months out of the year; you don't really get a lot of time with your family, but I don't take this opportunity for granted, I love it."
The combination of Reid's passion for the game and playing experience has helped prepare her to lead her own program.
"I think that Power Five experience playing at Louisville and then also the, the competitiveness from playing professionally for 10 years, because every year I'm competing for my job with someone with newer legs, so it's a grind. I just think all that helped me prepare for this, and I'm just so excited and happy about Bellarmine."
During her time as an assistant, Reid helped the Knights reach new heights as a Division I program, setting records for total wins (18) and ASUN wins (8) as well as winning their first-ever ASUN Tournament game.
Reid is the seventh head coach in the history of the Bellarmine women's basketball program.
