New Albany substance abuse recovery program making difference for clients
A substance abuse recovery program in New Albany called Groups is making a difference for its clients.
Groups uses medication and therapy to help treat addiction.
Allison Puckett leads the private program, which includes group chats, therapy, visits with medical professionals and medication like Suboxone or Vivitrol.
The program costs $65 a week and typically lasts two years.
Natasha Richardson is almost done with the program. She said this is the first recovery treatment option that has worked for her.
"I know there's so many arguments over whether it's a disease or a choice, and it is a choice in the beginning," Richardson said. "But it is mind altering and it does something to you that, unless you've been through it you, can never imagine."
The groups meet once a week and include eight to 15 people.
Anyone who needs help with addiction or drug dependency is eligible.
