Oldham County elementary students win big with Kentucky Derby documentary
Four 5th-grade students from Kenwood Station Elementary 맥스카지노 Lucy, Phoebe, Brooke, and Hailey 맥스카지노 used their creativity and passion for storytelling to win the first-place prize for their Kentucky Derby documentary.
As part of the school's Student Technology Leadership Program (STLP), the girls showcased not only their filmmaking skills but also their dedication to exploring one of Kentucky's most cherished traditions.
맥스카지노I kind of did most of the typing when we were writing our script. And me, Lucy, and Hailey, we did a lot of the researching,맥스카지노 said Phoebe.
This marks the second consecutive year the group has won in the statewide STLP competition. Their latest piece centered around the Kentucky Derby.
맥스카지노It was about the Kentucky Derby, and we kind of got the idea because we were thinking of horses, and then we thought of Churchill Downs,맥스카지노 said Lucy.
The documentary was made even more special by their chance to interview renowned horse trainer Kenny McPeek, who opened up about his career. The girls also had the opportunity to visit Churchill Downs, meet Derby-winning horse Mystick Dan, and McPeek's contender for Derby 151, Render Judgment.
맥스카지노We got to put all the Derby horses in, like the Oaks horses that we맥스카지노re going to run this year. We got to see all of them train and how it works. We got to see them like get baths, and we got to pet them all and feed them peppermint and stuff,맥스카지노 said Brooke.
Their encounter with the world of horse racing left a lasting impression.
맥스카지노The Kentucky Derby is really special, and there맥스카지노s a lot to it that people should understand,맥스카지노 said Hailey.
As the girls prepare to enter South Oldham Middle School this fall, they carry with them not only their win, but also dreams of pursuing their filmmaking careers in the future.
