A southern Indiana nonprofit, Project Recovery, is launching weekly giveaways to support individuals suffering from substance use disorders.
The mission of the organization is to provide compassion and remove barriers to accessing necessary resources.
Project Recovery offers a variety of items in their giveaways, including hygiene kits, HIV testing kits, fentanyl detection strips, and Narcan. This initiative is part of their 맥스카지노harm reduction맥스카지노 strategy, which is deeply personal for the organization.
Tracy Skaggs, the founder of Project Recovery, believes that meeting basic needs is a critical first step in the recovery process.
맥스카지노If you맥스카지노ve walked that same path, you맥스카지노re not going to have the same judgment. You맥스카지노re not going to stigmatize,맥스카지노 she said.
Her compassion stems from firsthand experience. She recently earned a master맥스카지노s degree in social work, but she has been in recovery for nine years and lost her husband to addiction in 2021.
맥스카지노After he lost his life, I went ahead full-force," she said.
Her grandson, Kyler Scott, a rising ninth-grader at New Albany High School, has joined her mission. He has helped place boxes full of Narcan across the county.
맥스카지노I know people who use and are users, and it just makes me feel safe knowing I can potentially save their life one day,맥스카지노 he said.
Scott carries Naloxone himself and tries to educate his peers. He has learned about marijuana and cigarettes in school but says, 맥스카지노I맥스카지노ve never once had one of my teachers tell me to not smoke meth.맥스카지노
He believes that it맥스카지노s only because of his work with Project Recovery that he recognizes signs of substance abuse and mental health disorders and understands the importance of the fentanyl test strips they supply.
맥스카지노Drugs are being laced left and right. You never really know," he said.
Scott also knows that the most important part of offering support is doing it without judgment. This attitude makes his grandmother proud.
"He맥스카지노s showing the world that people do matter. They맥스카지노re not their struggles. We are human beings, and they are worthy,맥스카지노 she said.
Project Recovery operates out of the St. Paul parish house in downtown New Albany, where it conducts its weekly pop-ups.
