Republicans target Ky. House District 38 in latest bid to flip southwest Jefferson County seats
Two years ago, Republicans flipped two state House seats in southwest Jefferson County by capitalizing on redistricting and a recent trend in the area 맥스카지노 registered blue-collar Democrats casting their votes for GOP candidates such as former President Donald Trump.
Now, they're targeting Kentucky House of Representatives District 38, which stretches from the Beechmont and Iroquois neighborhoods south of the Gene Snyder Freeway and over toward Prairie Village.
That's where Republican Carrie Sanders McKeehan hopes to unseat Democrat Rachel Roarx, who won the district two years ago after redistricting by beating GOP candidate Charles Breitenbach by just 376 votes.
"Our community's been neglected for so many years that we need a strong leader to go in who won't take no for an answer and can do a better job at securing the funds that we need for our community," McKeehan told 비바카지노 Viva News.
McKeehan is a public school teacher at JCPS and a principal at More Grace Christian Academy, she said.
Roarx said she has worked with Republican colleagues in the GOP supermajority to advance her priorities by co-sponsoring bills that passed. One cracks down on child abuse, and another requires earlier elections to fill vacant Metro Council seats rather than allowing appointees to serve out the remainder of a term.
She also said her experience as a legislative aide for former Metro Council member Nicole George gave her invaluable experience and insight. (George is now a deputy mayor in Mayor Craig Greenberg's administration.)
"I learned the value that no problem is too small," Roarx said. "Whether it's drainage, planting a tree, picking up litter on the side of the road, you know, all of those things make a difference in our community."
In 2022, Republican Jared Bauman was able to unseat longtime Democrat Charles Miller and Emily Calloway beat another House fixture, Democrat Jeff Donohue.
The wild card this year could be the presidential election and whether Trump drives more Republican turnout or Kamala Harris brings more Democrats to the polls.
