Local Super Bowl connections: These players have ties to Kentucky, Indiana
Don't have a team in the Super Bowl this year?
Maybe there's still someone for you to root for. Here are all the players we found on either the Kansas City Chiefs or San Francisco 49ers that have ties to Kentucky and Indiana, if you want to cheer for someone local(ish).
Mike Edwards
Edwards is a safety for the Kansas City Chiefs who played at the University of Kentucky.
This season is his first with the Chiefs. He started in the NFL in 2019 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and he already has a Super Bowl win under his belt.
Jalen Graham
Graham played at Purdue in Indiana under current University of Louisville coach Jeff Brohm.
The 22-year-old linebacker from Detroit was drafted to the NFL in 2023 by the 49ers.
George Karlaftis
This second-year defensive end entered his second season with the Chiefs in 2023.
He also played under Brohm at Purdue. Fun fact: Brohm went to the AFC Championship game in Baltimore this year to watch him and Lamar Jackson.
Drue Tranquill
It's Tranquill's first season with the Chiefs, but his fifth in the NFL. The 28-year-old linebacker played for Notre Dame in Indiana in college.
Aaron Banks
Banks is also a former Notre Dame player. The 49ers' offensive lineman has three years in the NFL.
There are also some players on the reserve/future/injured/practice squad lists.

- Darian Kinnard, T, Chiefs - played for Kentucky
- Cam Jones, LB, Chiefs - played for Indiana
