Teen dies in drowning at lake in Floyd County, Indiana
A teenage boy has died after drowning in a lake in Floyd County, Indiana.
Around 8 p.m. Friday night, the Floyd County Sheriff's Office received a call requesting EMS to the Highland Lake subdivision, which is between Georgetown and Greenville.
When first responders arrived, they launched a search for the missing teen believed to be in the water.
Just before 11 p.m. Friday, crews recovered the boy's body from the lake, but said he had died.
No other details have been released, but the sheriff's office said their thoughts are with the boys family, friends, classmates, and the staff at Floyd Central High School.
On Saturday, the superintendent of New Albany Floyd County Schools, Dr. Travis G. Madison, posted on Facebook to inform the district of the student's passing.
He said, "Our hearts are with all those affected by this tragic loss. We recognize the profound impact this will have on our school community, and we are committed to providing support for any student or staff member who may need it."
Madison added that counselors and other support staff will be available at Floyd Central High School in the coming days for those who need emotional support.
