In its 35th year, Thunder Over Louisville marks the beginning of the Kentucky Derby Festival, and the 2024 theme is "Celebrating Derby 150."
The challenge is to make a landmark event memorable every year, which doesn't always mean "bigger and better."
As Thunder's producer, Wayne Hettinger faces that tall task annually.
"The answer for me is to make myself surrounded with people that I have with me," Hettinger says. "These are experts at each individual phase of it."
Making this show unique means bringing fresh eyes and perspectives. Zambelli Fireworks, which designs the pyrotechnic performance, has put Patrick Brault up to the task. Brault, a native of Montreal, Quebec has extensive experience with major productions.
"This guy is remarkable," Hettinger said. "He comes to the he comes to the event with a huge background. In fact, he's done some of the Olympics. The guy's known all over the world, and in talking with him and going through what we want to do for the show, you're going to see a whole new a different approach with the choreography of the fireworks."
Brault's 39 years of experience has taken him to Spain, Paris, Vancouver, and beyond, and he takes the Louisville task seriously.
"I'm trying to put myself in the shoes of the regular Joe or regular lady," Brault said. "One thing I can promise is that they'll have a finale to remember for the ages."
As for his vision for Thunder? Brault gave us a small hint about his brainstorming process: "I compare it to Spain. They like noise, I like noise, and I think Louisville likes noise."
The April 20th show's timely theme coincides with the 150th Kentucky Derby, so elements of the Derby will appear맥스카지노for instance, "Call to the Post" will be part of the soundtrack.
