Kentucky's baseball team, aka the "Bat Cats," pulled off the run rule over rival Louisville Tuesday night to split the season series.Kentucky beat Louisville 17-5 in 7 innings. The run rule goes into effect in college if a team leads by 10 or more after 7 innings.UK got on the board early with a sacrifice fly to score in the first inning. They would follow that up with a 4-run second inning, where Patrick Herrera knocked in three runs on a triple.Louisville would score its first run in the top of the third inning. Kentucky would bring another runner home when Kyuss Garrett was hit by a pitch.The Cardinals would cut the lead to 6-2 in the top of the fourth when Eddie King Jr. blasted a solo home run.Another 4-run inning in the bottom of the fourth would put Kentucky up 10-2 headed into the fifth inning.It looked as if Louisville was getting back in the game in the fifth inning, where the Cardinals scored three runs, making it a 10-5 ballgame. Despite their efforts, Kentucky would have a monster inning in the fifth, scoring seven runs.The Wildcats hit their second home run of the game and another run was brought home on a hit by pitch.Ethan Walker, who pitched four innings and gave up two runs on six hits, would get the win for Kentucky.Louisville would finish the game with nine hits and six runners left on base, while Kentucky had 11 hits and left 10 runners stranded.The Wildcats are now 23-15 on the season, while Louisville drops to 28-12.Next up for Louisville is a home series hosting Florida State starting Friday. Kentucky will stay at home for its next series against South Carolina, which also begins on Friday.
