UofL's Pat Kelsey meets Derby-winning trainer Kenny McPeek
It's not often that Cards and Cats come together, but that's exactly what happened Tuesday morning at Churchill Downs.
Louisville head coach Pat Kelsey and trainer Kenny McPeek, a huge Kentucky fan, met Tuesday morning to talk horses and hooves.
After all that Kelsey has accomplished in year one 맥스카지노 ACC coach of the year; going to the NCAA tournament for the first time in six years 맥스카지노 having a horse named after him tops them all.
"We were invited by Kenny McPeek, who is training a horse that was named after me, which I think was like one of the coolest things in my professional career," Kelsey said.
It's no surprise that McPeek, a Kentucky basketball fan, would show his affinity for the sport.
"We love following college basketball. It's pretty well known that I'm a Kentucky fan. I grew up in Lexington, so it's kind of natural," McPeek said.
Two sports that go hand in hand.
"So there are a lot of parallels, you know, with basketball, with recruiting, with competing and horseracing. It's pretty cool," Kelsey said.
McPeek also spoke on the similarities between the two sports.
"Horses are our players. And we have to analyze their talent level. There's no real analogy to it all. Finding a good player that's got the work ethic," McPeek said.
For the McPeeks, the only difference is the colors they wear on game day. Kenny's wife, Sherri, is a UofL fan, but says he'll cheer for the Cardinals with her.
"We have fun with it around the house. We say house divided, but I rarely miss a basketball game or football game, given the chance," McPeek said.
Kelsey even brought out some UofL gear for the McPeeks.
"You always got to bring a gear package because guys love gear. So I brought a big backpack with a bunch of stuff. So we brought half of it for Kenny, half of it for Sherri," Kelsey said.
