Wednesday's Child hosts annual Christmas party for Kentucky foster care kids
Wednesday's Child, the Knights of Columbus, and other community partners gathered together on Wednesday to host a Christmas party for kids in Kentucky's foster care system.
The kids got to enjoy four hours of unlimited games, music, and food, along with two gifts that were specially designed for them.
"These events are of great importance, and they're a great support to our foster families and our facilities that provide stable environments for our kids," said Amanda Gehring, with the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services. "We make sure that we have the kids [wish list] available to them and so that they know they know which kids are in need and what kind of gifts we're looking for, just so that we can give them a special Christmas as if they were part of a regular family."
"If they want a laptop, they get a laptop. If they want a bike to get a bike," said Steve Arnold with the Knights of Columbus. "We try to take care of these Wednesday's Child kids because they're awesome kids and we just try to make sure they have a happy Christmas."
Dana Carroll, with Wednesday's child, said the Main Event closed down their space just for the annual party. That way, the kids have unlimited time to enjoy games and fun at the party.
"The thing that's so special about this [party] is how much the kids show appreciation, and gratitude," Carroll said. "I mean, they they, truly show their appreciation back to us. So, there's great reward when we do this every year. We wish we could do more."
The annual Christmas party has taken place for more than 20 years.
