JCPS bus crisis puts future of district맥스카지노s transportation system in question
Currently, Jefferson County Public Schools transports every student who requests it, but the superintendent says the busing disaster on the first day has the district reconsidering that option.
On Wednesday, which marks two weeks to the day that the busing crisis unfolded, JCPS leaders gave an update on where the issues stand and how they plan to further address them.
This was one of the first times the district맥스카지노s chief operation officer spoke on the matter, and he first started with an apology.
맥스카지노I want to extend my personal apologies for the disruption and inconvenience caused by a poor implementation of a new transportation plan,맥스카지노 said Chris Perkins. 맥스카지노We've been working around the clock to address that and make improvements to those systems.맥스카지노
Perkins says the district's previous short-term fixes have proved successful so far. The last student was dropped off Tuesday at 7:13 p.m., 30 minutes earlier than Monday맥스카지노s last drop-off time.
School leaders say the goal is to have students home before 7 p.m., like in years past.
JCPS officials said the last student on Wednesday was dropped off at 6:59 p.m.
맥스카지노Take in that our school day is now 35 mins longer, we actually improved on the amount of time it took to get students home over last year,맥스카지노 said Marty Pollio, JCPS superintendent. 맥스카지노Our goal here in this new system is to make sure we get to a point where times are very predictable for families.맥스카지노
To try and attain this, the district is implementing more changes.
One change leaders say that will take place in the next two days is eliminating unused bus stops from drivers' routes. They also plan to add bus stops and move students to new stops. The hope is to further reduce delays, shorten drivers맥스카지노 routes, and improve efficiency.
Pollio says he does not expect all parents to be satisfied with the improved drop-off times.
맥스카지노When we look at even last year, the delays in transportation with double and triple runs, getting kids home a little after 6:30 and even 7 on many nights was a common occurrence,맥스카지노 he said. 맥스카지노These challenges will continue to the point where we're going to have to evaluate do we continue to provide these services for every single family that chooses. Very few districts do that anymore. Based on the resources that we have, if a family wants to use that transportation they can, or we encourage them if that's something they can do to use their own transportation.맥스카지노
The bus disaster also has JCPS exploring the possibility of no longer offering transportation to every student who requests it. While those conservations lie ahead, massive changes to the current transportation plan are also forthcoming and will be addressed during the district's fall break. Pollio says they are considering an entire revamp of the system.
맥스카지노We do know that a full overhaul would be a major challenge and would require us to go through a whole process again,맥스카지노 said Pollio. 맥스카지노We have folks working on a complete overhaul, but we'll have to make a decision in the next few weeks at that break if we're at the point where we need to do a complete overhaul or if we need to improve efficiencies in our current system.맥스카지노
JCPS says they also do not have an updated start date for the Early Childhood Programs, which was scheduled to begin on Aug. 23 but was delayed due to the bus crisis.
