The Kentucky Derby Museum opened a new activity on Friday in hopes of educating kids on the Kentucky Derby. The new activity, Ari's Horseshoe Adventure, takes kids on a scavenger hunt throughout the museum. There are 12 collectible cards placed at different exhibits, each with a fun fact and brief explanation, plus a coloring activity.Emily Dippie, curator of education at the Kentucky Derby Musem, said the activity is designed for kids of all ages. "The scavenger hunt element really has students looking at panels that are written for our adult visitors and finding that information. So because that scavenger hunt element is written for a little bit higher, and then the activities are written for our younger visitors, it really hits everybody all the way up to high school," said Dippie.Ariel Murphy and her 3-year-old daughter, Carsyn, spent Friday morning exploring the new activity."This kind of brings it down to their level," said Murphy. " helped me explain things to her, instead of just for adults. I can actually explain what jockey silks are in a better way."The Kentucky Derby Museum said it saw a record amount of visitors in 2023, at 251,514. Of those visitors, 37,000 were school-aged children. A demographic the museum hopes to continue to attract. "The more students we have in this space, the more we're investing in our future and the more we're investing in our community," said Dippie. "It's something that's really a part of forming their future love for maybe the sport, maybe the culture of Louisville, maybe the history."Ari's Horseshoe Adventure is included with the price of admission to the Kentucky Derby Museum.
