Combatting crime, body cams, future of the role: LMPD interim chief speaks in 비바카지노 Viva studio
Louisville Metro Police Interim Chief Paul Humphrey stopped by the 비바카지노 Viva studio during Wednesday's 9 a.m. news.
Humphrey spoke on a variety of topics, including how to combat the wave of violent crime in the city, recent changes to body cam release procedures and his future in his current role.
Humphrey said that the LMPD command staff was "in the process of putting together a crime plan to address violent crime in a strategic way, as opposed to dealing with one-offs."
"I think particularly our investigative units, in CID and homicide, they're doing a great job of gathering intelligence and putting together strong cases, but obviously we have a long way to go, and there's some gaps that we have to fill," Humphrey said. "And so we have to make sure that everyone from my seat all the way to the newest recruit understand what the plan is and understands what their role is in solving violent crime."

Humphrey also spoke about how officer body camera video releases will not always be done in person, but rather posted directly online with information about the events shown.
He said the idea is to increase transparency by making them available to the entire public with information that seeks to not interpret what is on the video nor pass any judgement about what is shown as being right or wrong.
When asked about a permanent LMPD chief, Humphrey said that there is no active search going on. He said Mayor Craig Greenberg is aware of his work record and thinks he is comfortable with what he has done so far in the role.
He said that the permanent chief, whether it is him or someone else, needs to bring stability to the LMPD so that officers have a clear understanding of what's expected from them.
He was also asked about the vehicle accident he was involved in Monday in which he helped a woman who was having a medical emergency.
