'Beyond a thrill': My Morning Jacket's Hometown Hero banner unveiled
When you drive into Louisville via I-65, you'll now be greeted by a big banner of My Morning Jacket.
The Louisville band, which has been rocking since the late '90s, was honored with one of Louisville's iconic Hometown Hero banners.
The banner was officially unveiled, alongside the band, Thursday afternoon.
The banner is on the side of the armory building at the Kentucky Expo Center, near the Cracker Barrel.
Several people spoke about their impact, and front man Jim James, a St. X graduate, expressed the band's pure gratitude for the honor.
"You don't get to choose where you come into this world and, of all the places we've traveled and all the things we've seen, I just can't tell you how grateful I am that for whatever reason, the universe brought me out here in Louisville," James said.
The new Hometown Hero banner was sponsored by Danny Wimmer Foundation and Metro Council.
MMJ is playing at the Louisville Palace Friday-Sunday and then again the following Tuesday and Wednesday.

Each night, they'll have a local act opening, like Bendigo Fletcher and Future Killer. And, to fans' delight, they will have no repeats of songs over the five-show run.
In addition to the Hometown Heroes honor, the band also recently received the keys to the city at a Louisville City FC game. | Read more here.
The day before that, they released their new album "is."
If you're not familiar with the band, the five-piece group has released nine studio albums, has been nominated for a GRAMMY and one of their albums, "Z," was named one of the 500 greatest albums of all times by Rolling Stone.
