Superintendent Marty Pollio drove 4 students home on Monday, JCPS says
On the second round of the first day of school, it looks like the superintendent drove students home.
All students went back to school in the JCPS district on Monday, about a week and a half after a bus fiasco on the first day of school.
This time around, one of the improvements the district made was having extra vehicles available to help get kids home.
On Tuesday, JCPS confirmed Superintendent Marty Pollio drove a JCPS vehicle to take four students home from two different schools.
He took a lot of heat for the mess that unfolded the first day. This year, the district drew up new routes and staggered start times to try to alleviate the driver shortage. But ultimately, about a week of classes had to be canceled to work on the new mess that had parents in a panic.
Pollio said Tuesday morning in a statement, "I맥스카지노m proud of our staff who hustled to make sure every child safely arrived at school and got to their bus stops home. While there were some hiccups, just as there are during the first week of school each year, I맥스카지노m proud of the dedication of our JCPS team."
According to JCPS, the last students got off the bus at 7:48 p.m., an improvement from nearly 10 p.m. on the first day.
Among the other short-term fixes were "shoulder buddies" to help drivers navigate tough routes with GPS.
JCPS employees also have an app to know where buses were located during their routes to identify late buses for parents. The app will be rolled out to families soon, JCPS said.
