District 12

Republicans hope to flip a Louisville Metro Council seat in southwest Jefferson County, but their target isn't just any council member 맥스카지노 he's the chair of the budget committee, one of the most influential positions in city government.

Democrat Rick Blackwell has served Metro Council District 12 since 2003, when the council first formed after the city-council merger, and became budget chair in 2023. He is the president of Desales High School.

He's being challenged by Republican Jonathan "JJ" Joseph, a history teacher at Butler High School and a political newcomer.

Republicans are hoping that voters in southwest Jefferson County 맥스카지노 even some who are still technically registered as Democrats 맥스카지노 will continue to vote increasingly red as they set their sights on Metro Council seats such as District 14.

That district, currently represented by Democrat Cindi Fowler, stretches from the southwest corner of Jefferson County north along Dixie Highway to Greenwood Road.

Fowler is being challenged by Republican Crystal Bast, who points to recent GOP victories such as Rep. Jared Bauman's upset over longtime incumbent Charles Miller as well as former President Donald Trump's wins in many precincts there.

Democrats hope to flip a Louisville Metro Council seat in eastern Jefferson County, but to do so they'll need to unseat an incumbent Republican who is a leader in the council's GOP caucus.

Democrat Matt Golden is challenging Republican Scott Reed in District 16, a wedge-shaped district between Brownsboro Road and the Ohio River that stretches from Mockingbird Valley to Prospect and Norton Commons.

A Louisville Metro Council race features a rematch from 2020, but it remains unclear how redistricting will affect this fall's election.

Democrat Mera Kathryn Corlett will once again challenge Republican Marilyn Parker, the incumbent since 2012.

Republican Stuart Benson has been on the Louisville Metro Council since its inception in 2002 after the city-county merger, so he has a lot of name recognition in District 20, which stretches from Jeffersontown to the southeastern edge of Jefferson County.

But Democrat Marita Willis says she believes voters in this district are looking for a change, and she says redistricting and changing demographics in the suburban district might work in her favor.

Since the formation of Metro Council after the city-county merger, Republican Robin Engel represented District 22, which stretches from Fern Creek to the edge of Jefferson County.

Now that he's retiring, Republican Kevin Bratcher and Democrat Rasean Crawley are competing for the seat.

Both say addressing responsible growth is a top priority.

A JCPS teacher and social justice activist is running against an IT manager and community volunteer in the race to succeed Madonna Flood, who is retiring from the Louisville Metro Council after serving since the council's 2003 inception following the city-county merger.

Democrat Tyra Thomas-Walker and Republican Ginny Mulvey-Woolridge are competing in Flood's District 24, which stretches from the outskirts of Fern Creek to Okolona, up to Cooper Chapel Road.
